First IIT outside India will be in Tanzania: MEA | India News

NEW DELHI: The primary IIT campus exterior India will come up in Tanzania’s Zanzibar, the Ministry of Exterior Affairs (MEA) mentioned on Thursday.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed for establishing of a campus of IIT Madras in Zanzibar, which is a Tanzanian archipelago off the coast of East Africa.
The settlement was inked on Wednesday in presence of Exterior Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Zanzibar’s President Hussein Ali Mwinyi. Jaishakar is on a go to to Tanzania.
“The primary IIT campus to be arrange exterior India will probably be in Zanzibar,” the MEA mentioned. It mentioned an MoU was signed between the India’s training ministry, IIT Madras and Zanzibar’s ministry of training and vocational coaching.
“This campus is reflective of the longstanding friendship between India and Tanzania and a reminder of the main focus India locations on constructing folks to folks ties throughout Africa and the International South,” the MEA mentioned.
It mentioned the Nationwide Training Coverage (NEP) 2020 recommends that “excessive performing Indian universities will probably be inspired to arrange campuses in different nations”.
“Recognising the strategic partnership between Tanzania and India, the connection of instructional partnership has been formalised by signing the doc which offers the framework for the events to element out the establishing of the proposed campus of IIT Madras in Zanzibar-Tanzania, with plans to launch programmes in October 2023,” the MEA mentioned.
