Activist: Russian activist handed eight years jail in absentia

MOSCOW: Russian blogger and political activist Maxim Katz was sentenced in absentia to eight years jail Thursday, after he was accused of spreading “pretend information” concerning the Russian military.
Katz, who left Russia after the beginning of Moscow’s offensive in Ukraine, usually criticises the battle in his YouTube channel with over 1.8 million subscribers.
The courtroom in Moscow dominated that Katz, “underneath the guise of dependable stories”, was responsible of “publicly spreading false data” concerning the Russian military, the TASS information company reported.
In keeping with the Rossiyskaya Gazeta authorities newspaper, the cost was associated to a YouTube video from April 2022 the place he allegedly accused the military of concentrating on civilians in Ukraine.
